How to Pack the Ultimate Travel Bag for Your Pet

Because your best friend deserves better than a plastic bag full of kibble.

Planning a pet-friendly weekend in the countryside? A beach break in Filey? Or a road trip to visit family? Whatever your destination, prepping a travel bag for your pet can be the difference between a smooth getaway and a “why is the lead at home?” kind of disaster.

At Pawsitively Purrfect, we believe packing for your pet should be just as fun (and stylish!) as packing for yourself. So, we’ve put together the ultimate pet travel checklist—plus tips and product recommendations to make packing easy, tidy, and totally tail-wagging.

🎒 Step 1: Choose the Right Bag

First things first: ditch the carrier bag and opt for a pet travel bag or weekend tote.

Look for something with:
  • Multiple compartments
  • Easy-to-clean fabric
  • Space for food, accessories, and toys

🦴 Step 2: Must-Have Essentials

These are the absolute basics—never leave home without them.

Collar & ID Tag
Even if your pet is microchipped, an engraved ID tag with your number is a must for holidays.
 Lead & Harness
A comfy, secure harness is perfect for long walks or exploring new places. We use EzyDog harnesses as they fit Jackson the best.
 Poop Bags
Keep them neatly stored in a poop bag holder that clips to your bag or belt, or pop them in the side pocket of our personalised bottle bags.
 Towel for Muddy Paws
Pop in a personalised towel for post-beach or rainy day clean-ups.
 Vaccination/Medical Info
If you’re going away for a while, bring a copy of your pet’s vaccination record or vet info, just in case. Keep them safe in a personalised pet wallet.

🍽️ Step 3: Food & Water On the Go

You wouldn’t forget your own snacks—don’t forget theirs!

Travel Bowls
Travel bowls are ideal for car journeys, day trips, and quick water breaks. Our HydraPaws bottles are great as they come with 2 inbuilt bowls
 Pre-Portioned Meals
Pack your pet’s food in portioned containers or zip bags. We do this as its so much easier to only take what you need.
 Portable Water Bottle
Stay hydrated with a HydraPaws bottle—there are 2 openings, one for you and one for your dog.
 Treats & Chews
Bring a small stash of treats for training, distracting, or just because they’re cute.

🧸 Step 4: Comfort & Entertainment

Make your pet feel at home, wherever you go.

 Blanket or Travel Bed
A familiar-smelling blanket helps pets relax in new environments. We offer custom pet blankets that fold up small and are easy to wash.
 Favourite Toy or Chew
Something they know and love—will keep them occupied in the evenings
 Brush or Grooming Glove
For longer stays, bring a brush to keep them looking (and smelling) fresh. Jackson needs grooming everyday.

🚗 Step 5: Car Journey Prep

If you're driving to your destination, make sure your pet is safe and comfortable.

 Car Harness or Travel Crate
UK law requires dogs to be restrained during travel—use a crash-tested car harness or crate.
 Window Shade
Keep the back seat cool and shaded on sunny days.
 Car Seat Cover or Blanket
Protect your seats from mud, fur, or enthusiastic drool.
 Wipes & Sanitiser
Because accidents do happen.

Packing your pet’s travel bag is about more than just bowls and biscuits—it’s about preparing them for a safe, happy, comfortable experience wherever you go. When you bring the right items, you’re giving your pet the best chance to relax, enjoy, and feel at home—even if they’re miles from it.

And with our personalised travel gear, you’ll be organised, stylish, and ready for any adventure—whether it’s a picnic in the park or a beach week in Filey.
